The role of the Interim Academy Board

Paxton currently has an Interim Academy Board made up of Trustees of the Wandle Learning Trust. This is in order to provide the school leadership with the intensive governance support that it needs to improve.

Once this intensive period of the change process is over and we are ready to move forward with the governance arrangements, the Interim Board will begin to call forward and build a permanent Local Academy Board with representation from all areas of the school community, including parents.

The members of the Interim Board are listed below, and have been selected for their specific skills and experience related to the needs of Paxton.

Judi Dumont Barter - Chair of the IAB
Jill Newey
Sarah Marshall
Sue Pidgeon

More information on the members of the IAB can be found here.

Working closely together, the Board of Trustees and the Academy Interim Board has three core strategic functions:

  • Ensuring clarity of vision, ethos and strategic direction
  • Holding the Headteacher to account for the educational performance of the academy and its pupils
  • Overseeing the financial performance of the academy and making sure its money is well spent

Whilst in place, the IAB acts as the governing board, and takes on normal responsibilities such as:

  • Securing good leadership and management at every level
  • Working with the leadership to improve teaching and learning for all children
  • Improving financial management within the school
  • Improving building and facilities
  • Prioritising marketing and recruitment to raise pupil numbers
